However, the issue of concern here is that a lot of people suffering from ulcers fail to take adequate measures to facilitate healing. Most affected individuals consciously or unconsciously consume things that will be at their detriment and when the pain begins they start pondering on what must have triggered it. Therefore, in this article, I shall be examining four(4) things you ought to avoid if you are battling ulcers.

First, excessive pepper intake; despite the fact that a majority of people know the consequence(s) of excessive pepper consumption on their ulcer-affected bodies, they still go on to do what pleases them and act innocent or ignorant when stomach upset sets in. As an ulcer patient, there could be a stage when you will be advised not to consume peppery foods for your good and if you secretly go against such a piece of advice, you will be doing yourself more harm than good. Take, for example, pouring pepper on an open wound on your body, yes, this looks bizarre right? A lot of people won’t be able to do it, but this is exactly what some ulcer patients do to themselves, the only difference here is that the pepper lands on a sore in your body. If you are suffering from a stomach ulcer, you need to face reality and stop consuming items laced with so much pepper for your good. As we all know, there are some sacrifices we make for our health and this wouldn’t be too difficult if you really want to care for yourself, you never can tell, if you stop triggering it always, it has a better chance of healing faster and in no time, you will become free to take what you like.

Second, avoid carbonated drinks: some people may not know this but carbonated drinks can be described as an enemy of a person suffering from an ulcer due to their negative effects. The reason is that phosphoric acid is one ingredient in sodas and can erode the enamel on your teeth. Adding a fairly strong acid to a stomach already suffering from any kind of irritation is unwise. Additionally, the CO2 in sodas has an eroding effect on the stomach lining. You know how it feels on your tongue. It affects your stomach lining much worse. These two substances are the reason most people with ulcers stop drinking carbonated beverages. Therefore, if you are battling ulcers and you keep drinking carbonated drinks and continue to wonder what is triggering your stomach pain, through this article, I’m sure you have been able to ascertain the cause of your problem. Although these drinks are tempting to be honest, but you should learn to stop consuming them for your good.

Third, smoking: on a normal basis, smoking is not a good habit, and health officials frown at it. It is said that smokers are liable to die young due to its adverse effect on the body. As a man or woman suffering from ulcers, smoking can be very detrimental to your health and probably create more complications. This is because smoking prevents wounds from healing fast and your stomach or any other hidden part of the body isn’t an exception. As an ulcer patient who wishes to preserve his or her life, quitting smoking if you were into it or avoiding it if you haven’t indulged in the act before could be the best decision for you at the moment. Smoking not only affects you as an ulcer patient, but it’s also harmful to the lungs and can generate another health complication in addition to what you are already battling with and this is something you will never want to happen.

Fourth, starving: some have developed the habit of missing important mealtimes and to them it is normal. If you’re battling a stomach ulcer, you shouldn’t skip your meals as you may be indirectly beckoning for some days on the hospital bed. Make sure you judiciously eat your food and don’t skip mealtimes. This will go a long way in aiding speedy recovery. What happens when you starve as an ulcer patient is that if there’s no food in the belly, the organisms responsible for breaking down food, begin to attack the sores and you know what that means, unthinkable pain. So try as much as possible to eat at the right time.

In conclusion, ulcer pain can be very severe and when it becomes acute, it can pin you down on your bed for a long period and subsequently affect your daily activities. As it is said, prevention is better than cure, if you haven’t been affected by it, take appropriate measures to see that you don’t become a victim and if you have already been struck by it, the best thing is to visit your doctor and adhere strictly to the pieces of advice given to you. The above measures can also be of great help to you.
